Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was only a young teenager when her father who was an carnival barker, died. The mother of the family had to take on jobs such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was a student at the school located in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. She quit the school she was attending after only two years in order to pursue acting as a profession. The path she chose wasn't without its challenges. When she was in New York, her first job involved posing stills in crime magazines. acting work she wanted eluded. She then worked as the hat checker in a night club before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. In Boston, she was able to earn a living in the ushering industry during the during the day and then at night was a part of the New England Repertory Company. It was her first role as an actor. The study of drama helped her to graduate at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
